Zwischen Gestern und Morgen

Museum Kurhaus Kleve, 2022

Kleve, Germany

Upon encountering the bronze figurines of Luristan, Iran (1000 BC) showcased at Museum Kurhaus Kleve in Germany, and having the opportunity to view the archive of the museum I was profoundly moved to weave their untold tales into an installation I’ve titled ‘Woven Narratives.

these cultic objects, which were found during excavations in Amlasch and Luristan, were brought to Europe in large quantities from the beginning of the 20th century, where they quickly found their way into museums or private collections. The grave goods often cannot be clearly identified. The forms bear witness to a fascinating, little-researched culture from a European perspective, which
has connections to both the steppe art of the north and the culture of the south.

The figurines, displaced from their origins, embarked on journeys across distant lands, leaving behind fragments of their enigmatic past. To capture their incomplete and mysterious story, I envisioned a carpet as the storyteller—a handwoven tapestry where the depiction of the figurines is only partial, with the rest of the warp left hanging incomplete. This deliberate choice evokes the essence of mystery and invites viewers to ponder the unknown narratives of these ancient.
